Full disclosure: it’s my birthday tomorrow. Where do I begin with all my inspo? In the past, I’ve been known to have full week celebrations, so to kick things off on Sunday, today’s loves & inspo is based on all things birthday related. With another year having gone by, and another year of where I supposedly have gained more inspo and knowledge, I can’t tell you how much I’ve continued to “grow up” and find inspo in all the different areas of my life. This year, I’ll be celebrating with my husband rather than my fiancee; I’ll be celebrating my actual birthday with a day off from work and having a day where I stay off social media and attempt to do the impossible: nothing. But then again, I’m a creature of habit. I plan on hitting the gym early at 6AM despite the fact that I don’t have any good reason to wake up that early. I also plan on having a very “adult” birthday by celebrating with a handful of friends over some wine and charcuterie at one of SF’s popular restaurants, and then capping the whole week off with one of the things I’ve been looking forward to for a long time: dinner at Meadowood and brunch at Auberge de Soleil in Napa. Needless to say, this week’s going to absolutely kick ass and will be loaded with lots of inspo and love. For my birthday, I initially had planned this long laundry list of things I wanted to do: get cruffins at Mr. Holmes Bakehouse, hit up 20th Century Cafe for their Russian Honey Cake, head to Japantown for some mochi, and then capping it all off at Three Twins Ice Cream with some Lemon Cookie ice cream. But after thinking about how I was going to do all of that AND enjoy my day off, I decided that maybe I should start turning over a new leaf and just have no agenda for the day. The idea completely freaks me out, but generates an insane amount of inspo to try and do it. Going to all of those places are things I’ve been wanting to do for a really long time, and I can’t tell you how much inspo and love I’ve had for wanting to cross all those things off my to-eat list. I forget the value of nothingness though and sometimes, more isn’t better. All those places will still be there on May 19th, so if I can’t cross them off my list on May 18th, it’s not the end of the world. That doesn’t mean I won’t be thinking about it though 😉 I hope your week is filled with lots of loves & inspo; keep up with me via Instagram (@lisaguadzuka) to see how I’ve been celebrating!
Love / Inspo – Fitness: The other day the question of the day at one of my classes was: If you could work out with any celebrity, who would you work out with? Needless to say, there were some really great answers that ranged from Oprah, Danny DeVito, Reese Witherspoon, Will Ferrell, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. So, for my birthday, if I could have one celebrity come do a workout with me, who would I pick? Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson YO, who also happens to have a May birthday:
Love / Inspo – Fashion: Way back when I would celebrate my birthday from Thursday through Sunday, I’d treat myself to a few great outfits for going out. Most of them were party dresses, and while I may not be celebrating with some all-night ragers throughout the weekend, I definitely still love getting dressed up to go out for dinner, especially for my birthday! With all of the weddings we’ve been going to, some of these can double as dresses you can wear as a guest or for any special occasion that requires getting a little bit more “glam”! Check out a few of my current favorite special occasion dresses, including the first two that I recently wore to the last two weddings we attended (seen here and here):
Love / Inspo – Food: I’m not a big cake person. If I’m committing myself to a slice of cake, it’s because it’s something I know is guaranteed to win my heart and mind over. There aren’t very many cakes that can do that, but the one cake I know that will ABSOLUTELY get me craving seconds and thirds is a cake that’s only found in my hometown of Torrance: the King’s Hawaiian Paradise Cake. It’s a guava, passion fruit, and lime chiffon cake that is layered beautifully and covered in the most delicious filling and whipped cream. I know I’ll never be able to replicate it (very few people can) since the recipe isn’t available, but having just had extremely delicious chiffon cake at the wedding we went to this past weekend that was from a Chinese bakery, it’s safe to say that I love chiffon cake. The light and airy texture makes it seem like it’s not THAT bad for you. In any case, here are a few chiffon cakes that I love and would love to be able to eat!
Love / Inspo – Fun: So, since I’m planning on not doing anything on my birthday that involves an extensive agenda, let’s talk about what I would do on my birthday if money, calories, and time was of no importance. I kind of like doing this just because some of the things I’ve come up with are a little ridiculous and silly, but in all honesty, it’s a fairly good representation of where my interests lie. So, because there’s a fairly small chance of all of this happening in one day, here’s how ridiculous my imagination can run:
Lisa’s Ridiculous Birthday Four F’s:
Fitness – If I could choose any type of workout: Handstand push-ups and front squats, followed by some lifting and a lot of sitting
Fashion – If I could buy anything on my birthday: Made to order Manolo Blahniks
Food – If I could eat anything without it impacting my caloric intake: Cruffin from Mr. Holmes’ Bakehouse and Afternoon Snack from Bi-Rite
Guess who's back, back again? The MOCHA CRUFFIN is back, tag a friend! (Sounds way better if you sing it in Eminems voice) It's a Chocolate-Coffee Creme filled Cruffin and it's topped with chocolate mousse, and a home made chocolate block. (If you wanna see what it looks like inside, check out yesterday's pic!) ✌️❤️ #cruffin #sanfrancisco #mrholmesbakehouse #mocha #chocolate
Fun – If I could have all my friends gather and celebrate with me in one way: All you can eat Korean Barbecue. Duh.
